Celestron Advanced VX 6 SCT is the most affordable Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope available on a Go To German equatorial mount. The Schmidt-Cassegrain optical design is ideal compromise for both imagers and visual observers looking for a telescope that offers a larger aperture in a compact package. Add the f/6.3 focal reducer and this telescope becomes a very capable entry level platform for astro-imaging. The resulting 945 mm focal length allows you to achieve good results without the additional cost and complexity of an autoguider. The combination of a consumer oriented DSLR with APS-C sensor with this telescope an f/6.3 reducer will nicely frame the galaxy groups of M81/M82 and the Leo Trio, as well as hundreds of other objects.

Visual users will enjoy the versatility of these optics, which can deliver over one degree of true field or well over 250X magnification with the proper eyepieces. A one degree field is equivalent to twice the width of the full moon, and is enough to show you the full extent of the great Orion nebula. Six inches of aperture will easily resolve many globular clusters, which is another class of object easily seen from even a light polluted urban environment. Te bands and zones of Jupiter and the gap in Saturn's rings are easily resolved at higher magnifications. We suggest starting with a 9mm eyepiece for the planets, globular clusters, and other small objects such as the Ring nebula.

Celestron Advanced VX Mount

The Celestron Advanced VX mount offers a great combination of low cost and performance when imaging with smaller telescopes. A good general rule of thumb for imaging applications is not to exceed 50% of the rated capacity of a mount. We would recommend limiting the instrument load, meaning optical tube, camera and accessories, to no more than 15-20 pounds. The Advanced VX Mount allows to track through long exposures using permanently programmable periodic error correction and an industry standard ST-4 autoguider port. Image across the meridian without doing a meridian flip, so you can seamlessly image the best part of night sky. Advanced VX features significantly larger base castings than the prior generation CG-5, improving stability under heavier loads. Improved motors offer more torque and can handle slight load imbalances with ease.

Experienced imagers will love taking this portable mount to a dark sky site, with all the performance of their larger observatory mount. Or, if you're new to imaging, this mount will help you get started with the hobby and keep up with your needs for years to come.

Features

  • Integer gear ratios and permanently programmable Periodic Error Correction eliminates recurring track errors from the worm gear.
  • New motors offer improved tracking performance & provide more power to overcome load imbalances
  • Updated industrial design offers more rigidity, less flexure and improved aesthetics
  • New design allows viewing or imaging across the meridian without interference from the motors housings
  • Improved latitude range. Can be used between 7 - 77 degrees latitude.
  • Improved electronics with increased memory for future expansion
  • NexStar+ hand control offers multiple language programming (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish)
