Power Supplies
Most modern and telescope mounts require electrical power in the form of 12 volts DC. Other accessories, including CCD cameras and dew heaters, also require power in the field. We recommend external power supplies or rechargeable field batteries to meet these needs. Even if your telescope does accept disposable batteries, we recommend an external power supply for both reliability and economic reasons. The internal battery compartments of these telescopes are a convenience, but can also be problematic if a battery should leak during prolonged storage. For this reason, we caution people not to use these internal battery compartments at all.
Telescope Manufacturers offer several products for providing power to their telescopes and mounts, whether near the home or in the field. Most models with internal battery compartments do not include any form of power supply with the base package. Other telescopes and mounts include a DC power cord for plugging into a cigarette lighter outlet or a field battery.
