The Celestron Nexstar Evolution 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope features integral WiFi and a powerful internal Lithium ion battery. We often refer to it as the obvious step up from the NexStar SE in terms of features and value. The WiFi interface allows you to control the telescope from a free app available for Android and iOS devices. The internal battery makes the telescope self contained in terms of a power supply, and also has a lot more staying power than the AA batteries used in the NexStar SE. What really sets these two series of telescopes apart are the mechanical features. The NexStar Evolution features a more stable mount with an all metal gear train. Reducing the differences to practical terms, this telescope will be more stable at high magnifications than the NexStar 8SE. Vibrations induced by touching the focuser knob will settle out more quickly. If viewing the planets at the highest magnification that the atmospheric conditions will allow is your passion, the NexStar Evolution 8 would be a better choice than the NexStar 8SE.

The Most User-Friendly Telescope Ever

Celestron engineers designed the Celestron NexStar 8 based on years of customer feedback. It offers many thoughtful design features that combine to provide you the best possible experience out under the stars. Forget about batteries or an external power supply; for the first time ever on a consumer telescope, NexStar Evolution includes its own built-in lithium-ion battery. You will be able to enjoy stargazing marathons up to 10 hours on a single charge. That being said, other powered accessories such as dew heaters, will still require a separate power supply. If you live near our location or just about anywhere else on the eastern side of the country, you are going to want dew heaters and a separate power supply for them.

Setting up your Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 computerized WiFi telescope is quick and painless with large, ergonomic handles. Simply place it on top of the leveled tripod head and rotate the mount until it snap into the correct orientation. Three captive screw on the underside of the tripod head secure the telescope. The steel tripod features leg etchings every one inch, and dark bands every five inches to help you quickly achieve a uniform tripod leg length.. Manual clutches in both altitude and azimuth offer greater flexibility to point the telescope when powered off manually. Store up to 7 eyepieces in 2 accessory trays, one with an adjustable red LED illuminator.

The Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 telescope is the first Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with integrated WiFi. Connect your device to NexStar Evolution's built-in wireless network, and explore the universe with the Celestron mobile app for iOS and Android. Slew to all the best celestial objects with a tap of your smartphone or tablet. Use the planetarium interface to view the night sky in real time or display a list of celestial objects currently visible based on your time and location. Our proprietary SkyAlign alignment procedure is built right into the Celestron mobile app, so you're ready to observe within minutes.

Superior Tracking for Entry Level Imaging

While we at Skies Unlimited would not be inclined to recommend anything other than a German equatorial mount for serious imaging applications, Celestron does suggest that some basic imaging is possible with the NexStar Evolution 8. According to Celestron, these are the only fork-mounted telescope in their price range that offer worm gears, and the tracking accuracy is impressive. Lunar and planetary imaging should be possible, but there will be field rotation when imaging deep sky objects in the native altazimuth mode. If you want to try your hand at imaging with this telescope, we recommend the f/6.3 focal reducer and limiting your exposures to 30 seconds or less. An optional equatorial wedge is available for the NexStar Evolution, but we maintain that you would be better served going directly with an equatorial mount for deep space imaging applications.

The Celestron 8 telescope includes a StarPointer finderscope, two 1.25" Plossl eyepieces, a 1.25" star diagonal, AC adapter, and optional hand control.
