About Delos Eyepieces
TeleVue released their Delos eyepieces in 2011, starting with the 6 and 10 mm variants. The spiritual successor to the Ethos eyepieces, the Delos series was named after a Greek island that was the mythical birthplace of Apollo, the god of light and the sun. The name was also chosen as a nod to Paul Dellechiaie, principal designer of both the Delos and Ethos eyepiece series.
Delos eyepieces are mid-to-short focal length eyepieces featuring of 20mm eye-relief, a 72-degree apparent field of view and excellent contrast. The design used the Ethos eyepiece line as a starting point, using similar design points to achieve sharp visuals with minimal distortion. However, with a narrower field of view than the Ethos line, the Delos TeleVue eyepiece line allowed more room in the design to focus on eye relief and the control of pupil aberrations without making the eyepiece too large. The design is further complemented by a completely adjustable eye guard system that can be slid and locked into any position to maximize the comfort of the viewer. Combined with the large diameter of the lens, this eye guard helps block extraneous light from entering the viewer’s eye, maximizing the already excellent contrast the product achieves.
The Delos Eyepieces come with a wide range of focal lengths, including: 3.5, 4.5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 17.3 mm. The 17.3 mm focal length has been the most popular here at Skies Unlimited, perhaps for no other reason that it is a useful focal length in almost any telescope. All Delos eyepieces perform similarly in the focuser. Please feel free tocall or email us today to get expert advice on selecting eyepieces for your telescope.
